My Favorite Hobby

I have always enjoyed working with wood and at 70 years of age, I decided to build in miniature, each of the farm buildings from our old homestead.I learned a lot of my woodworking tricks back when I was just a young girl. Three of my brothers were carpenters and I used to hang around and ask a lot of questions regarding their work. I was usually told to go away. "You are just a girl," they would say in those days, and girls don't need to know any of this.Still I watched and learned a lot from them.

For these miniature buildings I only used basic tools such as hammer, handsaw, chisel, mitre box saw, clamps, nails and lots of glue. These buildings are close to scale and the old photos I kept helped me with the details.Paint stir sticks were used for the wood floors and chop sticks helped to make the doors and windows.

The miniature animals were found at flea markets and garage sales. The inside of the buildings have a lot of detail depicting that era and the roofs open up on most buildings to view the inside.

Let's you and I go and have a closer look.
